Music can be sexy

Band Show at Changlun C-Mart

uglymen 3 changlun
It was a windy, cloudy day, not too hot not too cold….
three kids were preapring for their virgins….
i mean for their virgin performance (virgin means the first time la, not the one you are thinking la!)

They are Kiwiisfruit aka Kevin (Drums), Mok Kai Jun (Bass), Tan Chin Sing (Guitar/Vocal), and they proudly called themselves UGLYBOYZ, kekekek…. actually when i look at the photos taken, they do resemble UGLYMEN. Kevin is funny, like our dim dumb dumb drummer Suan, Kai Jun is tall and hensem, like our gayman bassist Hooi, and Chin Sing is huge in voice and size… eh, like the big fat me.

Precisely at 5.55pm, my car (kai jiun, kevin, me, yuen choe) overshot the junction turning into C-Mart and we proceeded to Kayu Hitam…. hehe, Ric also same, guess like we are very attracted to kayu hitam ???

we used a no-u-turn juntion to u-turn, haha, so talented.

Arrived at the venue at 6.10pm, Signature was doing soundcheck and we just walked aroud like sua pa kao like we have never been to C-Mart before. Ya, this was the first time la.

UGLYBOYZ did a short sound check and to my shock (not very la) Chin Sing did a improvisation on the first song they were going to play, he sang one whole octave lower and changed the melody, i wouoldnt say the song went out tune but the melody certainly sounded weird.

After soundcheck, we went upstairs to have dinner, thanks to Mrs Ng for my fried rice and one whole plate of sambai.. (that i eventually got sore throat at midnight later), the food was nice and the place was wonderful (the cafe upstairs).

At about 8.15pm the show went underway and was openned by a fat ugly emcee which you dont want to know who, so i’ll skip that.

UGLYBOYZ:
1) Ming Yun Shi Ni Jia (Beyond)
2) Love Bubble Tea (Uglymen)

UGLYBOYZ played very well especially on their timing control, which they always screwed up in the studio, credits must go to Kevin on controlling the tempo through out. Kai Jun has some homework to be done on timing and Chin Sing rendered Love Bubble Tea nicely. As usual, many people were surprise to listen for the first time how Chin Sing sings as he does not sound like what his appearance and age resemble. Overall, the performance was better than expected and i hope they can take this success as a motivation to climb up futher.

Next up was SIGNATURE, the award winning band from alor setar, Chee Wei / Teik Hong (Drum), Chee Seng (Bass / Vocal), Teik Yan (Guitar), Fung (Guitar). SIGNATURE improved every time i see them play, Teik Yan played very very cool on his guitar and after his lovely marriage, he did not slow down but surprised me on how he articulate his playing so nicely, made me paise how 10 years ago he was my guitar student, i think i am his student now….
SIGNATURE played 4 songs and all of them very nicely, nice vocals, nice sounds… absolutely kiss-ass stuff!

And finally it was UGLYMEN’s turn, the kick-ass band that got ass-kicked… kekeke…
Suan has given full description on the band’s performance so i save that here. We (Uglymen) were very happy to perform here and express our graitutude to Muzik Sistem, Mr & Mrs Ng, all staff and Kompleks Changloon for the venue.

Personally, i want to thank Ah Khim, Sheh Huan, Ming Chiat, Khai Chiat, Yuen Choe, Yang Chang, Jan Jan, Hamsap Ric, Ah Wai, Lim Seng, Ah Weng, Kevin, kai Jun, Chin Sing and family, Sin Hui, Seow Huai, Eng Tat, Cool Man… (ya, 95% of them are from Alor Setar) ha ha, so now you know most of the crowd were ka ki lang…. actually i was a little surprise so many of my students were there as when UGLYMEN played in alor setar, there werent so many of them, hmmm, i guess Thai border has its unique attraction as they made more than 50km up north to witness the show.

And finally, thanks to Mr Ng for supper at Shahhab.
