After the show..

The first thing we notice after the show was… well, in our wildest dream ~ the CDs and T Shirts were going fast… Thanks to the idea of Silver Isle went to snap this photo, cause at that time, we were catching our breath back stage and talking to some friends.

Thanks so much to Shin (far left), Winnie (second from left), Paul (3rd from left) and Randy helping out on the stall. Arigato!!

Guess who bought our CDs and Shirts too?
03 angmoh fans
What a surprise, this ang moh kia (European, American, Eurasian, Tourist?) bought the Red Tee and came took photo with us. I asked the boy in red “What’s your name?” He said “Kay”, I answered “My name is Gay, g-a-y”

And off course our old pals the ENIGMATIC (Yamaha Asiabeat Asia Champions 2004) whom we met in Taipei came to support us. Their keyboardist also won Asia Best Keyboardist Award.

And I always will not forget this crazy guy that can do something weird to his finger, so I asked him to pose and share his “special” ability with all of you. Notice anything wrong?

So off we went to supper at some stalls near by, joined by many of our friends and supporters, we were discussing some “HOT” topics and Choo Ping was fast and furious in voicing her thoughts kekeke…

Later Shelley Leong and her band came with Patrick and the cool emcee who introduced Uglymen on the second night…

Not much noted during the dinner and not many photos as Silver Isle’s camera ran out of battery.
But we manage to get this very important photo, Suan was showing a very very famous and interesting video clip to Patrick and the cool emcee, look at the facial expression, wow! What was that clip Suan?

Moments to behold:
13th January 2006
At Penang Airport 11.15am, the plane, the plane…..

Can you spot three idiots on the plane?

I met Singapore famous artist Ah Du in Senai airport, come take a photo first
esplanade 3

See what i found, a sign on the plane’s body says NO STANDING, it says you can sit on the plane’s wing but cannot stand there when the plane is flying.

Arrived in Senai around 12pm Friday via Air Asia, it’s a shame Air Asia did not get to land in Singapore, so we had to do some extra travellings. But if Air Asia get to land in Singapore, I think MAS must be singing track number 8.

We met up with KJ’s younger brother Khai Horng in Senai airport and headed to City Square for lunch. I ate 2 eggs, 3 tau kua, any guess how much did it cost? what? RM3 ? wrong! It was RM6.60!!
We can easily eat that stuff at RM2.50 back in Penang or Kedah. Suan ate his RM8.00 chicken rice, sambil makan, sambil curse…. The rest of them, KJ, Metal have beautiful tales to tell about their meals too…

None of us went to the toilet at City Square, reason is simple: RM0.50 per entry… #$%^&*(,
I think Johorians seldom go to toilet that’s why they charge so high to cover cost. Imagine some one working at the mall full day if go toilet 4 times a day RM2, and working 28 days, total RM56 monthly for just pang jio pang sai… Malaysia Boleh!!

At approx, finally arrived at the Esplanade, as we were not familiar with all the transportation and routes to the venues, the safest way was to take cab all the way.

When we stepped into the venue, Ronin was sound-checking, they would peform an unplugged show that night. Ronin is a famous local band in Singapore

After about 15min, it was Uglymen’s turn to sound check, let me introduce you some of the VVIP at the show. Patrick (organiser and contact of our show), Arun (Stage Manager), Hazli (Sound Man), Randy and Shin (Chapperon and PR?), and a number of cool guys esp a stage crew resembilng the hair of slash and the big brother who controlled the stage monitors.

We sound-checked under the sun but luckily it was not too hot, at first i was quite unfamiliar to playing on concrete stage (refer to above pic) and was the first time playing in Singapore and made a mess of my vocal parts in some songs.

We played for about 35 minutes then Randy and Shin took us to a dressing room, nice, clean and relaxing. I overheard Shin said something to Randy when they were leading us to the room ;-)

13th January Show Run Down:

At exactly 7.30pm, Patrick as the emcee announced and introduced Uglymen to Singapore. Some one had told suan that Sinagpore fans or audience were not as agitated and active compared to Malaysian, well, the show went on and the fans proved how wrong the statement was.

We had a discussion in the evening before the show whether to play Shaolin Soccer or not as there might be little respond and maybe we’ll play the song and laugh ourselves in front of the silent crowd. Anyway, the song went on and expectedly, the crowd was silent after the song, and ah suan and me smiled at each other.

“The next song: 机器人是我和你 (Robots)” and the head banging starts. The crowd was not too hot still then. And we went on to render “Fool” and “Bubble Tea”, as we started to hear some voice from the crowd. The turning point came when we sang the forth song for that night: Sam Hui’s classic “Kuai Ma Seong Seng”. One uncle (guess around 50-60 yrs old) stood up, clapped and started to danced like a National Champion to the song. (We later found out he infact won some major dancing competitions in Singapore). It was unbelievable at the moment as others around the uncle started to join in to cheer.

Next on the menu was “Missing You”, we brought our CDs, T shirts and off course posters to the venue. After this song, we were giving away poster and sticker ~ in style.

Suan reqested a volunteer to come upon the stage, to no disappointement, no body came up and Suan went ahead to randomly chose a pretty young girl (for your information, he often chooses middle age ladies). And the young girl sportingly went up to the stage.

Suan: 2 simple questions and you will win this very valuable poster, it will be very valuable, when 4 of us are gone (dead)

Suan: first question, what is the name of our band?

Pretty Girl: Uglymen ! (that was easy)

Suan: second question, who is the most handsome among us?

Pretty Girl: (damn) !!!!

Metal Sow: (hehehehe…., we all know the answer)

Me: (If you say me, i will sacrifice my lips and let you kiss)

The crowds laughed and some screamed.

Pretty Girl: The drummer.

Uglymen: …….

The Pretty Girl took the poster and returned to the audience.

It turned out to be a moment to be forgotten fast for our beloved Metal Sow. Suan also was upset saying he would lose sleep that night. Actually, after the show, we heard some rumours saying actually some crowd liked to see KJ. :-)

Thanks to the girl for her participation.

The show moved on to another crowd participation song, it was good old “Do Mi Do”, wow! Whoever told us Singaporeans were passive audience must think again to make that statement. The crowd sang with us so loud until i almost cant hear my voice from the monitor speaker. Thank you so much Singapore!

And the final 2 songs were the re-arranged “Beyond Medley” and “Si Ai Bin”

It was super crazy stuff that night, thank you for the experience!

After the show, we went to Thai Express to have dinner (stupid me introduce the restaurant to a Thai band on 14th Jan to the restaurant, just like if some Mat Salleh introduce you to eat Laksa) kekeke…

Thanks to Choo Ping’s friend Eric Lee for the dinner

Well, for accomodation, Suan and me put up at Choo Ping’s place, Metal put up at one of his many many girl freinds’ place and KJ put up at his brother’s place.

14th January 2006

We went to Swee Lee Music and i saw an original N4 Vintage costing S$6600. Some others mind-blowing guitars and amps, bags, effects, drums, wow!! If only all my cash in my wallet was Sing Dollar at that time…. eh, i mean if only all of my savings in Maybank was Sing Dollar then… i mean was US Dollar…eh… i mean was UK Sterling Pound….

Sound check at 4pm, just when we about to move out from Choo Ping’s place to Esplanade for the sound check, we received this SMS from some one you-know-who:

12 kanne

hmm… he must have had some good time until forgot his bass…
OK, he was finally here.

It was totally shocking to us!

Because almost all of the CDs we brought there sold! And many T Shirts also sold!
Both unexpectedly.

Thank you so much to every one who support us, and we hope you enjoy our blend of Ugly rock back home on your music player, and if you like our music, please help spread the words around so we can meet more nice people like you!

To be continue, I have to rush to lesson now. Thank you for visiting this page,,,,

Featured Students Jan 2006: Kooy Eng Yeow

yoyokoay

Ah Yeow, this crazy funny super hillarious but talented guy is so much fun, you wont be bored if you hang out with him, esp girls ;-)

He plays the piano and electric guitar, though I would say he is a better piano player than a guitarist. He likes to mix classical with pop stuff esp ala Xjapan and some fast solos, but there are still rooms for improvement as he some times….. lazy

He had performed many times and was also a member of the MuZik Sistem annual concert student band. Currently studying in Penang and taking lessons fortnightly.   Ok ok, I mention this too, he is also a drummer!

Update: Oct 2009, Eng Yeow is doing his finals in Business Degree in Australia and enjoying a whole new level of music appreciation after discovering choir music and some divine intervention.
